Remember this demo? It was a privilege for so many years to introduce the concept of eye-controlled gaming for people with disabilities through this amazing DiRT 3 time trial at expos and presentations.

The eye-control aspect of the demo wouldn’t have been possible without the work of Tim Brogden, who developed the pivotal Alt-Controller software for us. And now Alt-Controller has been honoured at Gamescom 2024 with a Gaming ohne Grenzen award in the Hardware & Technology category.

Alt-Controller was created to open up more games to players, and we’re so pleased that 13 years after its release it’s still helping gamers to play the games they want to play. Seeing the creative ways players use this tool inspires us to keep finding new solutions to overcome barriers to video games.

Since Alt-Controller was created, accessibility features in games have increased, helping to meet these types of solutions in the middle. The more accessible hardware, software and in-game features there are, the greater the potential for more people to play.

Thank you to all of the Alt-Controller users, Tim Brogden who developed Alt-Controller for SpecialEffect, Gaming ohne Grenzen, Congstar and the jury.
