What a smile! Samuel’s now discovering a whole new world of gaming magic thanks to an adapted controller setup devised by our specialist assessment team.
Samuel has cerebral palsy and has difficulty controlling his movements, but he can use a computer by moving his eyes. He’s enjoyed playing the games on our Eye Gaze Games website, but he was keen to try some console titles, especially any driving-related games.
Our specialist assessment team carried out an initial online assessment with Samuel and his parents, and after discussing his abilities and possible controller solutions the team recommended an initial loan of two large button switches secured onto a Velcro-covered lap tray. The switches could be configured to controls such as brake and accelerate, and the Xbox Adaptive Controller in the loan setup also enabled his dad to play alongside him by taking over joystick and menu duties.
Out team were over the moon when Samuel’s dad sent us this video of them playing Forza together. “It’s fantastic to see him so happy to be able to play games like this,” said his dad.
Samuel loves his setup – it’s given a huge boost to his inclusion and it’s opened up a world of gaming possibilities. We’re so glad we could help, and we’ll be there for him if he needs further support in the future.
SpecialEffect have been helping people like Samuel to play the games they love to the best of their abilities for 15 years, so join us on One Special Day on October 7 and help us keep the magic flowing for gamers worldwide!
