Next time you’re scraping ice off the car and grumbling about cold fingers, spare a thought for the remarkable David Corless, who’s just completed a unbelievable 230km five day Arctic wilderness ultra marathon in temperatures dropping below -30˚.

That’s over a marathon a day in conditions that push competitors right to their limits, both physically and mentally. Many don’t make the finish line.

“The run… wow.” said David “To say it’s unlike any challenge I’ve ever undertaken is an understatement. Amazing, but truly, truly brutal. My body took a battering and mentally I went to some dark places.”

You can get a flavour of the extreme nature of this Ice Ultra event, organised by Beyond the Ultimate, in this video.

We’re truly humbled and grateful that David chose to support us as part of his challenge, and we simply can’t thank him enough for his fundraising, which currently stand at nearly £5000. You can support him here.

“I’ve worked within the video games industry for close to 30 years,” he said” “So I know personally the amazing work that SpecialEffect do, and the joy it brings to thousands each year. It may seem like a small thing to us, but for the kids to be able to play games with their mates is EVERYTHING to them. It truly is a special charity.”

Fancy an easier run than David’s arctic adventure?
