Payroll Giving

Make a special difference every payday with Payroll Giving. It’s the straightfoward way of donating that costs you less.

Payroll giving costs you less

Your donation is taken from your pre-tax salary, so part it comes from money that would otherwise be taxed. That means:

If you’re a standard rate taxpayer, a monthly donation of £10 will only cost you

£8

If you’re a higher rate taxpayer, a monthly donation of £10 will only cost you

£6

The amount you give is up to you!

How do I set up Payroll Giving?

Speak to your employer – or their payroll department if they have one – and ask them to set up a monthly payroll giving donation to SpecialEffect. If they don’t already have a payroll giving scheme set up, it’s easy for them to get things started.

Frequently Asked Questions

Who can donate to charity through Payroll Giving?

You can donate through Payroll Giving:

  • if you are paid by an employer
  • if you have PAYE deducted from your pay, and
  • if your employer has set up a Payroll Giving scheme. If they have, why not ask if they will match your donations?

Is there a minimum donation?

There’s no minimum or maximum donation amount. It’s up to you.

Can I change my donation?

Yes, you can ask your employer to change or cancel your donation at any time.

When will my donation reach SpecialEffect?

In the first month after your request is processed by your employer, your donation will be deducted by your employer and will show on your payslip. In the second month, your employer will pass your donation on to an HMRC-approved Payroll Giving agency. In the third and subsequent months, your donation will be sent to SpecialEffect.

Can I give to more than one charity?

Yes. You can support more than one charity through a single combined deduction from your pay.

What happens if I leave my job?

Your donations are taken from your pay, so they’ll automatically stop if you leave your job.
